“So, you’re a ghost?”
“Not at all. Ghosts are those who had been in mortal form. What do you think I am?”
“An alien?”
He shook his head. “Though there is more than Earthly intelligence in the vast universe. Not an alien. Here, let me show you.” Whirls of light enveloped his being and dissolved him a moment. He reappeared in a flow of robes, and iridescent wings propelled him a few feet off the ground.
“Angel?”
“As you call me of the ranks of guardians on High. Eviance will do.”
“Aren’t guardian angels supposed to stay around someone all their lives?”
“Yes and no. We do have other obligations to fulfill. There have been other guardians that worked with you. Substitutes.”
“Worked with me?” None of this made any sense
Eviance picked up an exacto knife, ran the tip along his fingers.
Not a drop of blood appeared.
“Amazing!” Kay took the knife away and put it in the storage box. “If you are an angel, how come your talk and dress is not altogether pious?”
“I am who I am.” He touched her hands, which filled Kay with a sense of peace she hadn’t known in years. “Beware, Kay, there is great danger. Use this when you need me.” He lifted the pendant whistle on her neck, twirled about and vanished.
